CAROLINA BEACH - The Carolina Beach Police Department has issued warrants for the arrest of Richard Kyle Williams, 34 year old male of Carolina Beach for alledgedly stealing cough medicine from the Sea Merchant's Grocery Store on Cape Fear Blvd.
A man was caught stealing cough medicine on March 1st. When confronted by the owners he walked out of the store, got into a golf cart and alledgedly pushed one of the owners and grabbed their arm in an aggressive manner to escape.
Video from cameras positioned throughout the store shows the man walking up to a medicine shelf, taking boxes of cough medicine and walking towards the back of store. He then walks across the back of the store, down aisle three, opens something, puts it in his pocket, then returns to medicine shelf, and places empty boxes back on the shelf.
He then takes more of the same, walks back to the walk-in beer cooler, comes out, is confronted by the store owner who tells him to pay for the items or leave them in the store.
The man refuses and promptly leaves the store. The owner's wife attempts to stop the man. According to the owner, the man eventually grabbed the arm of his wife as she attempted to pull the key out of the ignition of the golf cart that he ultimately used to flee the scene.
The owner, Mike Patel, said a woman claiming to be the man's mother called the following day to say he was in rehab and asked if the owner would not press charges. Patel disagreed and said he will press charges. Police are looking for the suspect. If you know him or his whereabouts please call 910-458-2540.
