CAROLINA BEACH - The Pleasure Island Chamber of Commerce hosted a Visions and Views Candidates Forum on Tuesday October 3rd at the Marriott Hotel in Carolina Beach to give candidates for Mayor and Council an opportunity to meet the voting public and answer questions on a range of topics.
The candidates for Mayor and Council in Carolina Beach are:
Dan Wilcox (incumbent)
Council: (2 seats)
Gary Doetsch (incumbent)
Leann Pierce (incumbent)
Gary M. Toppin
Candidates were questioned on topics including seismic testing for offshore oil and gas drilling, a shortage of available public parking, traffic congestion due to increased growth in New Hanover County, an alternate source of drinking water and whether or not candidates have any conflict between their personal business and voting on issues that may come before Council.
Candidates also addressed issues such as the future of beach nourishment projects and the availability of federal funding.
The Chamber of Commerce will hold another forum for Kure Beach candidates on October 4th from 6:30pm to 9:30pm at the Kure Beach Community Center at 118 N. 3rd St.
The candidates are:
Craig Bloszinsky (currently serving as Councilman)
Council: (2 seats)
Emilie Swearingen (currently serving as Mayor)
