KURE BEACH, N.C. –The North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher invites friends and supporters to experience a day at the Aquarium for free on the Veterans Day holiday, Friday, November 11, 2016.
“This is an annual opportunity to say thank you to all of our friends and supporters, especially our veterans,” said Aquarium Director Peggy Sloan. “We also so know so many people of eastern North Carolina have faced tremendous challenges with recent flooding. Here is a chance for them to briefly step away and enjoy a fun day at the Aquarium at no charge.” Veterans Day is one of two holidays each year the N.C. Aquariums offer visitors free entry. The other is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in January. All N.C. Aquariums also offer a discount throughout the year to active duty military and retired military (with identification). In addition, to help those affected by hurricane flooding and others in need, the Aquarium will be accepting non-perishable food, household and paper product donations on Nov. 11 to benefit those served by the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina. Appropriate items include canned fruits, vegetables, meats, beans soups; peanut butter, infant formula, diapers, wipes, toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, sponges, toilet paper, paper towels. No glass please.
Don’t forget most schools are closed for the holiday, too. Children ages 5 to 12 are invited to spend a fun-filled day at AquaCamp. Space is limited and a fee is required.
