BEHIND THE SCENES
• AQUARIST APPRENTICE - Wednesdays, June 20, 27 at 2 p.m. - Check out a dirty job you’re sure to love. Join staff on a behind-the-scenes tour and learn about Aquarium animals, what they eat, how they live and how to care for them. Then assist aquarists with food preparation and help feed the animals. Participants also observe aquarists during daily care and maintenance tasks. This limited opportunity is only open to 10 participants.
Participants should wear closed-toe shoes and be prepared to smell fishy. For ages 10 and older.  Ages 14 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.  Fee: $30 for ages 13 and older, $28 for ages 10-12. PREREGISTRATION REQUIRED.

• EXTENDED BEHIND THE SCENES - Tuesdays, June 19, 26 at 2 p.m., Thursdays, June 21, 28 at 2 p.m. - It’s feeding time, and you’re invited to watch. Visit the top of our largest exhibit, the Cape Fear Shoals, during an expanded tour behind the scenes. Get a birds-eye view of this 235,000 gallon tank as sharks, stingrays, moray eels and other fish swim below. Aquarists feed the animals during the tour, offering a unique opportunity for close-up viewing. Participants should wear closed-toe shoes. For ages 8 and older. Ages 14 and younger must be accompanied by an adult. Fee: $25 for ages 13 and older, $23 for ages 8-12. PREREGISTRATION REQUIRED.

• FINS AND FAMILY TOUR - Fridays, June 22, 29 at 2 p.m. - A short and sweet tour behind the scenes for the young and curious. This 30-minute exploration packs in gallons of hidden fun and learning specifically for families with children 3 to 7 years old. Staff shares fin-tastic animal facts and assists in creating a fishy craft to take home. Then follow the hidden passages to the top of the Aquarium’s largest habitat for views of sharks, rays, a green sea turtle and much more. Participants should wear closed-toe shoes. For ages 3 and older. Fee: $16 for ages 13 and older, $14 for ages 3-12. Aquarium admission included. PREREGISTRATION REQUIRED.
JUNE SUMMER
CAMPS FOR KIDS
Aquarium summer camps provide fun and safe learning opportunities with knowledgeable and competent leadership. Camps run simultaneously for ages 5-6, 7-8 and 9-11. Ages 5-6, known as Aquanauts, become immersed in weekly topics through animal interaction, play, storytelling, crafts and hands-on outdoor activities. Ages 7-8, Marine Detectives, use their investigative skills during animal programs, outdoor excursions and interactive games to better understand nature. Ages 9-11, Ocean Explorers, participate with staff in experiences outdoors and behind the scenes at the Aquarium to discover each weekly topic. Ages 12-14, Coastal Crusaders, venture farther to explore different coastal environments and learn about animal collection. These campers also interact more directly with staff behind the scenes to assist with animal care.
• EXTREME ECOSYSTEMs - June 18-22, 8:30 a.m. – 3 p.m.  Ages: 5-6, 7-8, 9-11, June 25-29, 8:30 a.m. – 3 p.m.  Ages: 5-6, 7-8 - Ever wonder how a penguin can survive in -58°F or how a camel lives in 120°F heat? Discover how animals thrive in complete darkness 36,000 ft. below in the deep sea and 125 ft. above in the treetops of the rainforest. Campers will learn about these extraordinary ecosystems and how local animals compare to their extreme relatives.
Fee: $250 for ages 5-11. PREREGISTRATION REQUIRED.
• COASTAL CRUSADERS - June 25-29, 8:30 a.m. – 3 p.m.  Ages: 12-14 - How can North Carolina's aquatic environments be recreated and maintained in an Aquarium setting? By exploring natural habitats, campers will gain a better understanding of how to investigate and preserve the environment we all share. Activities that campers will enjoy this week include canoeing on the Brunswick River, surf fishing, and visiting the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center.
Fee: $300 for ages 12-14. PREREGISTRATION REQUIRED.
AquaCamp Transportation! This year we are offering limited transportation from the Monkey Junction area to and from Aquacamps! We can accommodate only 13 children per day.  A FEE AND PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED!

The N.C. Aquarium at Fort Fisher is located just south of Kure Beach, a short drive from Wilmington, on U.S. 421. The site is less than a mile from the Fort Fisher ferry terminal. Hours: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Admission:$12.95 ages 13-61; $11.95 62+ and military; $10.95 ages 3-12. Tax is not included in admission price.
