CAROLINA BEACH:  Roger Paul Mansur, age 73, crossed to the other side on June 3, 2016 at Duke University Hospital following a brief illness.  Mr. Mansur is survived by Sandra Jean Carey, his wife of 48 years, daughters Tamara S. Mansur and Tracy Mansur Hill, son-in-law Edward W. Hill, Jr., granddaughter, Reagan Jean Hill, his “little treasure”, sister Kit Kucinkas, nieces Susan Perry and Katrina McKee.
President and CEO of Bricksaver Corporation, Mr. Mansur held a patent-pending on the Bricksaver product, a unique device he invented to protect bricks on pottery kilns.  Additionally, he founded Creations In Clay, Inc., a kiln repair service for the local pottery community.
Mr. Mansur received his BME degree from General Motors Institute, now Kettering University.  His plastics engineering career spanned several decades, providing technical support in the plastics industry for many Fortune 500 companies including GM, ExCello Corp, IBM and GE.  While with GE, he taught classes in the US and Caribbean in the plastics field and conducted plastics workshops and lectures at trade shows in the US.
An avid and competitive sailor, Mr. Mansur with his 25' sailboat, Sandpiper, won many racing trophies and placed second in the Catalina National Races held at Lake Norman.  He was a former officer of the lake Norman Yacht Club. He was a gifted potter and sold many of his original works of art locally.  He was a proud student of Hiroshi Sueyoshi, famed North Carolina Living Treasure, and was a member of Fat Cat Pottery and the Carolina Clay Guild of Wilmington.
In addition to pottery, he enjoyed fixing anything whether broken or not, traveling, reading and lively conversations with friends and neighbors.  Originally from S. Windsor, CT, Mr. Mansur retired to Carolina Beach, NC.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations in his name to the Carolina Clay Guild, or Lily Dale Assembly:  5 Melrose Dr, Lily Dale, NY 14752.
The family is being assisted by Clements Funeral Service, Inc. in Durham. Online condolences may be made at www.clementsfuneralservice.com
