Virginia Ann “Ginger” Piner Smith, born in Wilmington, NC on May 8, 1934 passed away peacefully on August 15th at Lower Cape Fear Hospice.
She was survived by her sister Madeline Capps of Raleigh, daughter, Julie Collins Bright of South Carolina, son, Douglas Collins of Carolina Beach, granddaughter Jamie Martin Lanier of Wilmington, grandson Bobby Aschendorf of Louisiana, granddaughter Lexi, grandson Joshua, great grandson Dylan Martin Lanier and great granddaughter Katie Aschendorf.
Ginger was a feisty, tough and fun lady that was loved by all who met her.  She was a manager at Hardee’s for many years and worked at the Fort Fisher Ferry for several years as well.  When she wasn’t working, she loved being at the beach, fishing, having fish fries and having a good time with family and friends.
Memorial service will be held at Kure Beach Memorial Lutheran Church on Thursday, August 23rd at 4pm.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice or Kure Beach Memorial Lutheran Church.
