The Town of Carolina Beach recently installed a multi-use path along the southern side of Cape Fear Blvd as part of a project to replace aging water, sewer and stormwater lines and creating a new streetscape.
The multi-use path is meant for people to walk and ride bikes on. Not for golf carts, scooters and especially not for vehicles.
The path was originally installed with crosswalks at each street intersection. It didn't take long for people to hit the path in their golf carts or drive and park vehicles on it in front of homes.
So the Town erected signs saying, "Pedestrians and Bikes Only - No Motorized Vehicles."  That's the sign on a metal post appearing in the left side of the photo. Still, people didn't pay attention. So the Town installed signs in the path itself at each intersecting street that display the same message using symbols for a person and a bike and once again stating, "No motorized vehicles." So with an abundance of signs displaying a clear message, this photo shows a car parked in the  multi-use path on Tuesday March 15th. Perhaps the Town should put up more signs displaying a $500 fine for violating the rules that are clearly stated  repeatedly along Cape Fear Blvd. Will it do any good, probably not. But still a good source of revenue!
