Lucy’s Choice Bay Charters

Lucy’s Choice had a charter last Saturday that will stick in my memory forever as one of my favorite trips.  We caught countless pinfish, pigfish and little croakers.  Now stop laughing and I’ll explain.  What made it so very special were the anglers aboard: Nine year old twins Elizabeth and Will, and seven year old Macy. And it wasn’t about catching big fish as much as having big fun!  The previous generation, Mike & Sandra, were also along for the ride, but they didn’t fish and pretty much stayed out of the way.  We launched down at Federal Point Access and sped through Buzzard Bay and into the creeks and bays behind Baldhead Island.  We visited deserted islands, hunted for shells, and search for buried treasure.  Then we wound through more crooked creeks watching for exotic birds and even found an abandoned camp that reminded us of Gilligan’s Isle.  Somewhere along the line we stopped long enough to catch all those fish, and then chugged across the choppy Cape Fear to have a fantastic lunch at Provisions.  The return trip against bigger waves, a blistering Northeast wind and light rain made the adventure even more memorable. I tell you it was all smiles all day long.  ‘Nary a complainer in this bunch!  Happy Happy Happy.  I seriously can’t wait to take them out again. Who knows, maybe next time we might even see the sun! For this week’s fishing report, I’d have to say Kure Beach Pier takes the prize. They’ve had several spot runs, reeled in several King Mackerel, some Citation sized Red Drum and about everything in between.  Now get out there and go fishing!  It’s time!!!
Wishing you the best,
