Merry Christmas!!  What a wonderful Christmas week we had this year. The weather was absolutely amazing. The week started off a little cool but by the end of the week we had high temperatures in the mid sixties. With all the parties to attend and family to go see I don’t think many people made it out on the water. The ones who did get away long enough to wet a line reported good numbers of trout biting in our area, as they have been. The specks are nearly everywhere. If you put your trolling motor down and cover enough ground it will be hard not to run into them at some point. A lot of outdoor enthusiasts tend to shift their train of thought this time of year, especially around the holidays, and put some time in the woods. It is always nice to eat a big plate of food with the family and then scramble to the woods and get in the deer stand. Not everyone partakes in this but many do which can make the local boat traffic seem quite slow. Now that we are moving into the New Year this coming week, I will make a few suggestions. Just like making a new years resolution, I like to set myself some fishing goals. Whether that be catch a particular fish, breaking a personal record, or simply fishing newer water just set a goal. At the end of next year you will find that setting goals like this will certainly help you in some sort of way. The fishing will remain pretty slow other than a few cold water species for a while. My advice it to take some time and go through your equipment and make sure that as this winter comes and then go’s you are ready for the hot fishing when it gets here.

I had the pleasure of watching my good friend Devin Anderson kill his fish black bear 12/26.
