This year’s top finishers are as follows: in the male division, 1st place Thomas Eichorn age 17 of Oak Island, 2nd Jack Palagruto age 16 also from Oak Island and in 3rd Cole Vaughn age 21 of Kure Beach. For the females in 1st Place was Carmen Delia, 2nd Julia Hagerty and in 3rd was Leah Stilwell all of Wilmington.
Proceeds from the event support Step Up for Soldiers. The non-profit provides disabled veterans who experienced loss of limb and mobility problems with the resources necessary to adjust in a post-war environment. As a result of the events and fundraisers, sponsored by Step Up For Soldiers, we strive to not only enhance their lives and those of their families but also help to restore their confidence and positive self image www.stepupforsoldiers.org.
Mark your calendars for November 8th where Step Up For Soldiers will team up with the High Tide Lounge for the annual chili cook-off. Funds raised will benefit Justin Crabbe. Justin lost both legs and some of his fingers when his Marine Corp. unit was attacked in Afghanistan in 2010. Justin has relatives in Carolina Beach. Tom Crabbe, of Carolina Beach, a cousin of Justin Crabbe, is very pleased with the support his family has received since the attack back in 2010. Local residents have sent Justin thousands of dollars.
The chili cook-off will take place on Saturday, November 8th, at the High Tide Lounge. Sampling will begin at 1:00. Admission will be $10 for all the chili you can eat, with all admission fees going directly to Justin. There will be a 50/50 and raffle, as well. DJ Rick will be on hand throughout the event. It is free to enter your chili and the limit is 60 entries. To register go to www.stepupforsoldiers.org, click on events and go to the chili cook-off page. You can also register at the High Tide Lounge.
