Police Make Drug Arrest At Florida Ave Home Featured

CAROLINA BEACH - The Carolina Beach Police Department arrested 45-year-old Michael Blain Spaugh of 300 Florida Ave. on April 6th on charges related to selling Heroin. According to Scott Hettinger with the Carolina Beach Police Department, "After a 4-month long investigation, Officers with the Carolina Beach Police Department and Kure Beach Police Department executed a search warrant at 300 Florida Ave. in reference to narcotics violations. Michael Blain Spaugh a 45-year-old male, was arrested on scene and charged with 3 Counts of Sell/Deliver Heroin, 4 Counts of Possession with Intent to Manufacture, Sell or Deliver Heroin, 4 Counts of Maintaining a Dwelling for the Use/Sale of a Controlled Substance, 1 Count of Possession of Methamphetamine, 1 Count of Simple Possession of a Schedule 2 Controlled Substance, and 3 Counts of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia."

Hettinger said Spaugh was placed on a $500,000 dollar secured bond by a magistrate and confined in the New Hanover County Jail, awaiting his first court appearance.

Recent Sentencing In Other Cases

Hettinger also said two people were recently sentenced to prison time stemming from drug related charges in unrelated cases.

Deshawn Malik Hankins

Deshawn Malik Hankins was sentenced to 70-93 Months is Prison for Conspiracy to Traffic over 28 grams of Heroin in Carolina Beach.

Hettinger said Hankins charges stemmed from an arrest at Coles Motel in Carolina Beach where over 100 grams of raw heroin and 1640 packaged bags of heroin was seized.

In May 2015, Detectives with the Carolina Beach Narcotics Division, FBI Safe Streets Task Force, New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office and Wilmington Police Department executed a narcotics search warrant at 213 Raleigh Ave. Carolina Beach, NC. The search warrant concluded with the arrests of Mr. Thomas Jackson and Ms. Shannon Muldrow for multiple drug violations.

After investigating the pair in reference to heroin distribution, Detectives were able to obtain a search warrant for the residence and warrants for the arrests of Mr. Jackson and Ms. Muldrow. The service of the arrest and search warrants took place without incident or injuries. The search revealed over 3.5 ounces of raw heroin, 1,640 glassine bags of heroin for sale, approximately $130,000 street value , thousands of glassine bags ready for packaging and other drug paraphernalia.

Lindsey Gail Matthews

Lindsey Gail Matthews was sentenced to 50-89 Months is Prison for Attempting to Traffic Opiates and Sale of a Schedule 2 Controlled Substance in Carolina Beach.

Hettinger said Matthews charges stemmed from an arrest where Matthews sold over 45 Opiate pills in Carolina Beach.

Matthews was served with a warrant on August 14th, 2017 after being released from prison on unrelated charges. Hettinger said Matthews was selling Oxycodone pills in Carolina Beach. She was in possession of 45 pills.
