CAROLINA BEACH - Tuesday November 5th, is Election Day for municipal offices in New Hanover County.

The filing period begins Friday, July 5, 2019 at 12:00PM and ends on Friday, July 19, 2019 at 12:00 PM.

For Carolina Beach, Kure Beach and Wrightsville Beach, the Offices of Mayor and two Council seats will be up for election. For the City of Wilmington, the Office of Mayor and three Council seats will be up for election.

When filing to seek the office of Mayor or a Council seat, a "Notice of Candidacy" must be signed in the presence of the Chairman, or Executive Director of the State or New Hanover County Board of Elections, or a candidate may have his or her signature on the notice of candidacy acknowledged and certified to by any officer authorized to administer an oath, including a notary (G.S. § 163A-972). In signing his or her Notice of Candidacy, the candidate may use a nickname if candidate complies with the requirement specified in G.S. § 163A-972 and which includes submitting an affidavit.

In Carolina Beach, Council member Leann Pierce recently announced her candidacy for the Office of Mayor.

Local resident Dorrene Stanley also recently announced her candidacy for the Office of Mayor.

Incumbent Councilman Steve Shuttleworth announced he will be seeking reelection. Local resident Lynn Barbee announced he will seek a seat on Town Council.
