“Put Your Best Fork Forward” is the theme for the March 2017 National Nutrition Month. This theme focuses attention on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating habits. Many people who struggle with their health or weight have tried multiple diets or food plans without long term success. The changes they make end up being short term and old eating habits return.
Here are a few tips to include in your eating routine for increased health without loss of flavor.
1. Eat healthy unprocessed foods This means cooking with fresh vegetables, lean meats, eggs, milk and plenty of fruits, nuts and beans.
2. Switch to healthy whole grains At the supermarket buy wholegrain breads, brown rice and wholegrain pasta.
3. Change to healthy cooking methods  Grill or barbecue, stir fry or bake instead of deep frying to maintain nutrients
4. Eat healthy portion sizes An ideal plate should have one quarter as lean meat or protein, the second quarter of the plate          as whole grains and the remainder of the plate filled with salads, vegetables or fruits.    
5. Drink water:  Natures Healthy Drink Replace sugar packed soft drinks with at least 8-10 cups of water daily for digestion, absorption and transport of nutrients.
The theme” Put your best fork forward “encourages everyone to take time to enjoy foods while maintaining healthy nutrients. How, why, when and where we eat is just as important as what we eat.
