“When I was in grade school, they told me to write down what I wanted to be when I grew up.
I wrote down happy.  They told me I didn't understand the assignment.  I told them they didn't
understand life.” - Unknown

What makes you feel happy?  My basket of joy consists of balancing 9 areas of life  known in feng shui terms as the stations of the Bagua or the implied meaning of space.  Just to be clear, feng shui has as much to do with what is inside of me and how I feel and experience life than what is around me. My furniture placement is just an extension of who and how I am feeling.  My décor is the story of my inner world.
Around 650BC in ancient China, Emperor Yu sat by the river Lo, contemplating the secret to happiness in life. At some point into his quest, the wisdom he was seeking was exposed by patterns on the back of a turtle.  Much like the story of Sir Isaac Newton getting bonked on the head with a famous apple and coming up with The Universal Law of Gravitation, Emperor Yu’s AHA moment has become the basis of perfect harmony as expressed in the Lo Shu magic square. There is nothing magic about the Lo Shu, though.  It is mathematically perfect and as scientific as Newton’s discovery.  It symbolizes what all human beings desire – balance and contentment in life.
1) SELF – who I am today, my career.  2) RELATIONSHIPS – my marriage or friendships with another.  3) FAMILY – including ancestors and those who were before me.  4) SELF-EMPOWERMENT – some call this wealth but power is more than money.  It is being able to activate strength from within.  5) HEALTH – found in the center of the Bagua, everything revolves around health.
As my chiropractor once said, “If you don’t have a body to live in, where are you going to live?”
6) COMPASSION – being helpful to others and being humble enough to accept help when needed.
7) CREATIVITY – legacy, children and what I leave to this world.
8) WISDOM – taking knowledge to the next level by knowing what to do with it.
9) FUTURE – where I want to go, my goals, my dreams and what I have to look forward to.
By assessing these areas and making adjustments where needed, feng shui guides in realizing that happiness is the by-product of a life of gratitude.
This human experience gives us many opportunities to feel emotions, think thoughts and speak words that create our circumstances.  We are responsible to choose love or fear as the motivation for our actions.  I choose love for it is the way of living green.  The balance of yin and yang is a green heart glowing with peace and contentment.  Some would call that happy.   xo mo
