“The road to success is always under construction.”

If you have driven by our store lately you may have passed right by since it is difficult to figure out how to approach our front door.  There are dozers and steam rollers and cranes and large bed trucks on our block and the entrance is marked “road closed.”  The town has placed signs circumventing parking vehicles to the alley behind where large towers of new water and sewer pipes are waiting patiently to be laid in trenches.  This is the second winter Artful Living Group has been turned into its own kind of island, hard to get to and on its own. Every day I ask the workers ‘how much longer?’ and the daily reply is ‘one more week.’
I am reminded that whenever I clean out or declutter my own space at home, the process looks like a hurricane has hit as I pull out stuff from closets, drawers and cabinets and wonder how and why I have collected so much ‘baggage.’  A home is like a body.  We bring things in, digest them, use them, love them but eventually it is time to remove them as they have served their purpose.  A home constipated does not feel good.  Piles are made and moved to my car where they are appropriately transported to resale shops or donation drop-offs.  When removed from my home and the space is cleared, the feeling of untethered weight relieves my emotional shoulders.  I can breath and feel a deep sense of satisfaction that cycles are the way of a healthy and successful life.
‘Use it, love it or get rid of it’ is a mantra I try to live by. However, getting to the place of clear space is a process and may look quite messy and uninviting.  Let us not judge the process.  It is an integral step in advancing towards the goal.
The town of Carolina Beach has had an unsurmountable task in replacing infrastructure but they will prevail.  The end product will serve our community for years to come.  The beauty will be admired and foot traffic will easily pass on 16 foot sidewalks in front of our store without the awareness of the pain it took to create such a landscape.
In the meantime, I am asking you to make the effort to come into our store and admire the work of David Norris, featured artist during the month of March.  His show will be switched out in April and the work of the well-loved Candy Peagram will shine throughout April.
We, at Artful Living Group, want to express a sincere thank you to the town and workers for creating a beautiful boardwalk area.  On Tuesday, March 31st at 2:00PM the Town of Carolina Beach will be hosting a Grand Opening for the NEW Carolina Beach Boardwalk. Come out and enjoy raffle giveaways, music by a local DJ and much more!! The upheaval and hard work may be forgotten but the end product will surely produce success for all. xo mo
