“How did it get so late so soon? It's night before it's afternoon. December is here before it's June.
My goodness how the time has flewn. How did it get so late so soon?” ~Dr. Seuss

The torrential rains we had a few months ago wrecked havoc on our house.  The roof leaked behind the wall of our bedroom and water came in under out carpet.  As I jumped out of bed, my feet got soaked and that started the long list of repairs and restoration to take place during the holiday season.  Since our out-of-state kids came for Thanksgiving, I begged off not beginning the inside work until they had gone.
Last week the ceilings were repaired in both bedrooms upstairs, painting was done and drywall repaired and treated for mold control. We had to move out of our bedroom to the guest room downstairs during this upheaval. It’s a good thing I did because the carpet install took place on Friday and I had forgotten how discombobulating it is when everything has to be moved from carpeted rooms, including everything from the closet floors during the install.  My house was totally inside out.  Even the downstairs bedroom we were sleeping in had piles of things from Randy’s office where more repair had to be done to the floor and carpet.  This was a feng shui nightmare.
Randy pulled out the holiday decorations from the carriage house and set them on the deck for me to peruse.  Every year I replace my everyday dishes with my Spode Christmas China during this season.  As I started opening the boxes, memories flooded my being.  I packed up our everyday dishes and put them in the closet while the festive china was run through the dishwasher.  I realized the cupboard needed cleaning out and before I knew it I was decluttering my pantry and laundry area.  The recycle bin was overflowing.
Customers were calling me for last minute appliquéd hooded towels for children which I make and sell in the store.  I was also thinking about the window install jobs to be completed before Christmas.  Next Saturday December 19th at Artful Living Group Jillian is having a cookie decorating event for kids in the store 1-3pm during the Holiday Open House (come by and shop.)  And then I started thinking about baking my cookies. I was feeling slightly overwhelmed.
That is when I was grateful for the Island Women Organization.  The ad in the Island Gazette read, “Don’t have time to bake?  Don’t worry!   The Island Women have been busy as elves baking dozens of Christmas cookies with sugar and spice and everything nice. Pre-order assortments sold by the dozen for $8 and pick-up Dec 18th at the candlelight vigil in CB at the Gazebo 6:30-8:30 pm.  Will also be available for pick-up at Artful Living Group Saturday and Sunday.  To place order contact Mo Linquist 910-216-0366.   Perfect for hostess gifts or gifts for shut-ins.   Order yours today.  Quantities are limited.  ALL PROCEEDS go back to the community on Pleasure Island.”
That’s right!  I don’t have to bake.  I can BUY my homemade cookies.  Call me and I’ll place your order.  I LOVE it when women work together.  How did it get so late so soon?  xo mo
