“Some changes look negative on the surface but you will soon realize that space is being created in your life for something new to emerge.” ~Eckhart Tolle

My 45th high school class reunion was last weekend. A trip to Canton, Ohio was not in the cards since I was busy closing the store with Chris and preparing for the move to my new studio. Although I missed it, pictures were quickly posted on Facebook and it reminded me of an experience I had several years ago.  I was watching a movie and had been told that one of our classmates who had left for Hollywood after graduation, had landed a part in this flick.  It was pretty entertaining and the role he played was of a young man in trouble and very believable.  As I watched for the credits, I was confused because his name was not mentioned in that role.  However, his name was mentioned in the role of the father, the older gentleman, balding, pudgy and not at all how I remembered him. I realized that my memory of him remained in the past.  Without a current connection, he will forever in my mind be an 18 year-old.
Since that graduation day I have had my ups and my downs.  Life has been similar to a Charles Dickens novel experiencing both the best of times and the worst of times. We have been extremely blessed but it has not been without life’s challenges.  Randy and I both have adventurous spirits and although I thought I was supposed to be traditional, mostly we chose the road less traveled.
My desire or purpose in life revolves around becoming more conscious, more aware, to live life with a heightened sense of peace from within.  I want to live a life full of gratitude and appreciate the simple things.
I want to put away my ‘monkey mind chatter’ and take time to admire the beauty on our island.  Sometimes I realize it has been days or maybe weeks since I have taken 5 minutes to put my toe in the ocean.  That’s pathetic considering the paradise we live in.
Change is often nerve-racking.  The neuro pathways in our brains keep us on familiar paths, habitually repeating activities similar to how we did it yesterday.
Fortunately, neuroplasticity allows us to create new roadways.  When intentional, change can be exhilarating.  Feng shui teaches us the wonder of change everyday.
As the wind blows, the water sways. We change the furniture placement in the room to change the movement of the person, breaking old habits and creating new pathways.
I should start preparing for meeting my classmates at the next reunion.
