“Waking up to a smell is a lot more satisfying than waking up to a noise. Instead of barging in uninvited and yanking you out into reality, smells enter your dreams with a silent knock and a polite "Excuse me?”  ~Adi Alsaid

January 28th is the first day of the Chinese New Year, determined yearly by the moon phases.  2017, the year of the Fire Rooster, will continue until Feb 15, 2018.  Last year, the year of the Fire Monkey, and true to the form of this little primate, the world went crazy with uncontained energy.  Britain left the EU, The Chicago Cubs won the World Series (after a nail biting series with the Cleveland Indians) and The Donald TRUMPED Hilary, becoming president-elect and surprising even himself at how his rascal-like antics worked on the American people.  I am not being political here even though he was not my first choice.  I am giving him a chance to make healthcare affordable, jobs for everyone and the feeling of safety on our streets in big cities.  We all want that, right?  But, you do have to admit, with his unique comb-over hairstyle he does kind of look like a rooster, doesn’t he?  This is his opportunity to wake up America. Cock-a-doodle-dandy.
What does waking up mean?  To me it means coming out of the trance of everyday life.  How many days, weeks, years have I gotten out of bed in the morning, gone about my daily duties and fallen back in bed that night, with little more accomplished than the workings of a robot. That is not enough for me. I want to wake up and smell the coffee or the roses or the sauerkraut and cabbage cooking, reminiscent of my childhood years.
As I sit in my bedroom chair and write these thoughts, I see a white feathered dreamcatcher, a prized possession brought back from our recent trip to Ullered in Sweden.  Dreams can only become reality when we wake up.  Some coaches help people strive for goals.  When I am coaching clients using my feng shui toolbox, I personally like to create intention or vision boards.  Call me to schedule a class with your girlfriends for a fun night in my studio or your home. In-home special runs $20 a person with a 5 person minimum.  All working supplies provided.  You provide drinks and snacks. Invite MaryAnn McConnell and I am sure she will bring the jello shots.  Intentional living comes to life with intentional decorating.  The dream is the yin but the action is the yang.
New Year’s resolutions go by the wayside because they never get out of the dream state.  Is there something you really want this year?  Wake up with me and turn your dreams into reality.  xo mo
