“No OTB” the saying goes.  Visitors walk into our store and read the sign looking up without recognition.  “What does it mean?” they ask.  Locals who live on the island know very well the psychological syndrome that takes over once Snow’s Cut Bridge is crossed as a sigh of relief is felt and there is no looking back to the mainland.
‘No Over the Bridge’ simply symbolizes the feeling of buying local, playing local, eating local and staying local.  Businesses on Pleasure Island flourish in the summer months when tourists abound.  The trick to staying in business year round is being able to attract business from the local folk in order to pay utilities, rent and other expenses in the cruel months between November to April.
Many times people wander in to our store and exclaim how ‘cool’ our store is, with its plethora of artist products.  We surely appreciate the complements but island businesses need both complements and sales to pay the bills. The fourth annual Pleasure Island Shopping Spree brings you deals at shops all over the island with the added bonus of the chance to win prizes.  Participating stores are Artful Living Group, Jeanne's Jewels and Fashions, Island Chic, the Checkered Church, Island Wellness Market, Primrose Cottage, Tip Top Frame Shop, Canvas Giclee Printing, Hair and body Works, Island Roast Coffee, Big Apple Bakery, as well as the NC Aquarium. With every $10 you spend you are entered into a raffle for gift baskets from participating stores as well as the grand prize of a weekend getaway at Pleasure Island.  Stores open at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 22nd and the event wraps up with a Raffle Party Sunday at 5 p.m. at the Courtyard by Marriott on the ocean at Carolina Beach.
Island Local™ of Pleasure Island (http://www.islandlocal.biz/campaigns/merchants-week/) is dedicated to support LOCAL Business this Holiday Season.  Island Local™ Merchants Week is November 29 - December 6.  WHO will FIND Island Local™ "Catch the Sales Wave" Surfboard?  Snap your picture, post it, & maybe WIN daily prize of $50 value!  GRAND PRIZE for week is $250 Island Local™ Bucks!  Get Ready..and mark your calendar!
Stop in at Artful Living Group and pick up the first annual commemorative “No OTB” ornament created by local artist Jillian Boivin.  Quantities are limited.  The best part of it is that you can get it right here…….NO OVER THE BRIDGE.  xo mo
