“As you get older three things happen. The first is your memory goes, and I can't remember the other two.” ~ Norman Wisdom

This week we shall explore the 8th area of the bagua known as KNOWLEDGE or WISDOM. As you stand in the doorway, turn your head to the left and point to the left hand corner of the room (for some, the entrance may be in this area.)
Extend the tic-tac-toe grid placed on the floorplan and examine your space.
This area of the bagua may also be considered self-cultivation.  It is highly important to keep this space uncluttered and open so you can explore unlimited possibilities in your life.  We begin the learning process while still in the womb.  Researchers have discovered the third trimester in utero as a time of sound recognition (primarily the rhythm of the mother’s heartbeat and her muffled voice.)  At birth the child is thrust into a whole new environment as all the senses continue their development for this strange and marvelous world.
Children absorb information quickly because their brain activity is mainly in the theta frequency range. This is a very slow brainwave and produces high levels of creativity, intuition, emotional connections, sense of calmness, focus and concentration and, because of the relaxing state, produces more energy.  Sounds just like a kid, doesn’t it?
To enhance the KNOWLEDGE area of your space, it is beneficial to tap into the rhythm of theta brainwaves.  The feeling of this is slow, sturdy and supportive.  The I Ching calls  it ‘mountain energy.’
Obtaining knowledge is so valuable it elevates one’s place in this world. Whether a college degree or learning a hands-on trade, watching a You Tube video or listening to a TED podcast, education is something no one can ever take away from you. Adam knew Eve.  Knowledge is being one, however, knowing something, I mean, really being at one with something, is not the end of the story. Knowledge begets wisdom and wisdom is knowing what to do with that knowledge.  Wisdom is the epitome of self-cultivation as it guides you to become the best version of yourself.  Continued learning is second only to movement and exercise in predicting a high quality of life during our later years (food choices and other healthy lifestyle decisions were below that!)
Look at this area of your room.  What speaks to knowledge, wisdom and self-cultivation?
This is a wonderful area to place a study desk or a tall (mountain-like) bookcase.  If you have clutter in this area, ask yourself if you are resistant to learn anymore about the true you. Another way to use this area to enrich your knowledge could be the addition of a comfortable chair with ottoman or chaise.
Put on some headphones and find a theta wave meditation on You Tube to raise your creativity, relax your soul and ground yourself with mountain energy as you open up to become the best person you can be.
We live in an information age and at times may experience information overload.  If your memory goes, it may be time to delete files in your brain.  Recently I became an Access Bars Practitioner and have been trained to help others declutter the mind as well as the room.  This is one way to open up the space for new possibilities.  Are you living your life’s purpose? You were, at one point, connected to all knowledge and wisdom. Do you remember?  I challenge you to remember to remember. xo mo
