February is Career and Technical Education Month

In February, New Hanover County Schools will celebrate Career and Technical Education Month. The mission of Career and Technical Education (CTE) is to empower students with skills and knowledge needed for effective participation in a global economy as world-class workers, productive citizens and contributors to society. Students develop the ability to work independently and as part of a team, to think creatively to solve problems, and to utilize technology in the problem solving process. CTE concentrators are career and college ready with 21st century skills. CTE creates an educational environment that integrates core academics with real-world relevance. The programs are constantly changing, evolving and innovating to better serve the needs students in NHCS and those around the country.

• 64 Career-Tech courses offered in 13 career clusters
• Middle and high school enrollment - 12,500+
• Technical attainment proficiency rate 81.2%
• Industry recognized credentials earned - 1,383+
• Internship participation - 50+
• CTE enrollee secondary completion - 93.9%
• CTE concentrator graduation rate (Four Years) - 91.4%
• Enrolled in related post-secondary education and training, employed and/or military (first year following graduation)-93.2%
