By / Life on the Island / Tuesday, 03 January 2017 05:00

This past Saturday both Carolina Beach and Fort Fisher State Parks’ hosted “1st Day Hikes.”  In Carolina Beach nearly 200 hikers attended the trek led by Ranger Kip Futch who took guests through the Sugarloaf trail. In Fort Fisher the rain kept the crowd a little smaller but almost 50 hikers came out and braved the weather for a beautiful hike to the Basin Trail led by Ranger Alyssa Taylor
Visitors involved with the North Carolina State Parks 100-Mile Challenge – to walk, hike, paddle, cycle or otherwise explore 100 miles in the state parks – can add First Day Hikes mileage to their totals. Details about the 100-Mile Challenge can be found at www.nc100miles.org
