By / Local Events / Tuesday, 22 November 2016 05:00

The Lighting at the Lake Ceremony officially begins the month long Island of Lights Festival in Carolina and Kure Beaches. The Lake is located at the intersection of Atlanta Ave and Lake Park Blvd in Carolina Beach, NC.
There is parking in the lot at the lake, a lot across the street from the lake and on Lake Park Blvd where indicated. The event is always the night after Thanksgiving and the opening ceremony is at 7 PM.
The brief opening ceremony, prior to the actual lighting, will feature the President of the Island of Lights Committee, Pleasure Island elected officials, and musical entertainment. Local Cub Scouts provide the Honor Guard and display the flag for the singing of the National Anthem.
Families can walk the one-mile around the lake to view all of the beautiful lighted displays. Santa will visit the celebration and free refreshments will be served prior to Light Up. That’s not it for the Island of Lights Committee! Mark your calendars for the Island of Lights Christmas Parade December 2nd, the Island of Lights Flotilla December 3rd, the Island of Lights Tour of Homes December 10th and the Island of Lights New Year’s Eve Celebration to be held December 31st in Kure Beach’s Oceanfront Park and Pavilion by the Pier!
