Kenneth Dean Edgar, 75, of Leland, died Friday, January 23, 2015, at SECU Hospice House of Brunswick in Bolivia, NC. Kenny was born February 4, 1939 in Ft. Wayne, IN. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy and moved to Wilmington after his military service. Kenny served as Sergeant with the Carolina Beach Police Department, was a long-haul truck driver, and ultimately ended his career as a driving instructor with Cape Fear Community College. He was a member of Federal Point Masonic Lodge #753 AF&AM, Carolina Beach. Kenny was a proud and honest man who loved his family. He enjoyed meeting people and making them laugh.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Ann Edgar; daughter, Sandy Genes (Donald, Jr.) and two sons, Kenny Edgar, Jr. (Karen), and Tom Edgar (Tia), all of Wilmington; nine grandchildren, Kylie Edgar, Brandi Swinson, Kent Edgar (fiancée, Marquie Allen), J.T. Swinson (Jessica Sliva), Donnie Genes, Travis Genes, Keith Genes (Sami), Hayden Edgar, and Bryce Edgar; three great-grandchildren, Isaiah Lilly, Jaedyn Bass, and Ayden Swinson; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; and his four-legged companions, “Abby” and “Little Bit”.
A memorial service with Masonic rights and military honors was held at 3pm Tuesday, January 27, 2015, at Andrews Valley Chapel. Prior to the service, at the funeral home, the family received friends from 2pm until the service hour. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Kenny’s honor may be made online or by mail to Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of NC, 4530 Park Road, Suite 240, Charlotte, NC 28209, or to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
