Doris Lowder Nash Marley, 94, of Carolina Beach, passed away Sunday, September 9, 2018, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCareCenter.
Known as “Mee-Maw” to her family and friends, she was born June 29, 1924 in Cabarrus County, NC, daughter of the late Robert Beeler Lowder and Ethel Mae Alsobrooks Lowder. Her first husband, Charles E. “Bill” Nash, sons, Robert Earl Nash, Terry Lee Nash, daughter-in-law, Carol Klutz Nash, and stepson, Joe H. Marley, preceded her in death.
She was a member of the United Advent Christian Church.
Mee Maw loved her family and lived life to the fullest! She was loved by all who knew her and her smile could light up the darkest room.
Moving to Carolina Beach in 1960 with Bill and their three children, she soon learned to crab and fish loving the small town life. She was a member of the Christian and Missionary Church being involved in many activities there.
One of Mee Maw’s most rewarding jobs was the baker at Carolina Beach Elementary School where she took much pride in baking the perfect sticky buns for the children and staff.
After her husband, Bill, passed away, Mee Maw fell in love with long-time family friend and church member, Joe Marley. She and Joe shared fourteen happy years together, travelling and just enjoying each other.
Mom loved to travel, work in her yard, walk, water aerobics, delicious dinners, tea parties and sitting on the dock with Joe. But most of all, she loved to laugh!
Always let it be said, “Mom had rather be working in the dirt outside, than that dirt inside!”
She is survived by her husband, Joseph “Joe” Marley; son, Larry Wayne Nash; daughter, Linda Nash Holland (Fred); stepson, Michael Marley (Sherry); four grandchildren, Wendy Nash Yadao (Thomas), Heidi Nash Crosby (Steve), Bobbi Nash, and Marty Walters (Kathe); and eight great-grandchildren; nephews, Tommy Nash (Linda) and Rick Nash (Janice).
A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm Saturday, October 27, 2018, at United Advent Christian Church, 4912 S. College Road, Wilmington, NC 28412.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Doris may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401
