John “Jack” Blair Buchanan, 70, of Carolina Beach, NC, passed peacefully of cholangiocarcinoma on Monday, October 29, 2018. With him were the love of his life and partner in heart, Joanie Jordan and beloved friends.
Born October 2, 1948 in Hawaii, Jack was the beloved son of the late George “Buck” and Jane Buchanan and brother George. Jack is survived by his nieces, cousin and entire Pleasure Island “family”. Jack grew up in Hawaii and later spent his middle school and high school years in Falls Church, Virginia attending Flint Hill School and graduating from George Mason High School in 1968.
After college in Danville, VA, Jack worked as a Conductor for AMTRAK before moving to Carolina Beach in 1972.  Jack was a cofounder of the infamous Loading Zone in Carolina Beach, a partner in Patty’s Hollow in Wilmington and owner of Atlantic Irrigation.
Jack was a Master Mason, a Son of Legionnaire and an active volunteer in the community. His friends will forever remember him as a skilled social ambassador, known for his talent to hold “court” in a crowd. He relished entertaining his friends with good food, drinks and conversation. His generosity, dry humor and his uncanny ability to remember minute details of everyone he knew, were hallmarks of his personality.
We hope you will take a moment to reflect fondly on your personal encounters with Jack. He treasured his time with all of his friends, far and wide. His unique personality and presence will be greatly missed.
Per Jack’s wishes, a Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday afternoon, November 3rd, 2 to 4, at the American Legion Post 129, Bridge Barrier Road, Carolina Beach, NC.
“Say not in grief ‘he is no more’ but in thankfulness that he was.”
