Rose Marie Flowers, 88, of Kure Beach, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 18 surrounded by her family. She was born May 25, 1930, in Rowan County to the late Orby DeHart and Gladys Herman DeHart. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, sister and beloved husband of 62 years, Glenn.
After marrying Glenn in 1947 and making Kure Beach their home together, Marie ran “The Shack” at the Fort Fisher bay, where she sold drinks, snacks and rented fishing rods. She later worked at Carolina Gloves at Carolina Beach and helped her in-laws run Flowers Cottages for many years, in addition to helping Glenn run his Linda Marie fishing business.
Marie loved the Lord and her life exemplified her Christian walk and dedication as described in Proverbs 31.
She attended Kure Beach Baptist when it was established in 1955, serving and working in the church for more than 40 years. She loved working with children and was the children’s Sunday School teacher for many years. Music was a big part of Marie’s life and she sang in the choir and helped with the children’s choir.
Marie enjoyed sewing, needlepoint, reading and gardening, and especially enjoyed sharing the bounties of her garden with her neighbors and friends.
She showed kindness, empathy, compassion and concern for her family, friends, the community and animals. There was never a hungry cat or dog when Marie was around.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda, her son, Johnny and her faithful animal companion Bob.
The family is thankful to many friends for support, including Dr. Howard Ruscetti and staff, Mary Polonus, Sandy Panicali, Frankie and Jimmy Jones, our Seaside Chapel church family and a special friend Amy Hooker Kidd.
Services will be held at Seaside Chapel, 105 Dow Road at 1PM on Saturday, December 8 with pastor Jerry Vess presiding. A reception in the Family Life Center will follow.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice.
Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.andrewsmortuary.com
