Thank you to all of our readers and advertisers for another wonderful year.
The Island Gazette has served the community since before 1978 and looks forward to another wonderful year in 2016. 2015 was an great year. The local economy is seeing some much need improvement. New home construction is increasing in our area and that's a good sign for our local economy.
Pleasure Island has witnessed some really nice improvements in 2015. Downtown Carolina Beach looks much better now that the new Boardwalk is complete.
New sidewalks, landscaping and other improvements in the area will look even better once power lines in the Boardwalk area are completely placed underground.
The Town of Carolina Beach moved forward with a large infrastructure project to replace old water, sewer and storm water pipes throughout the downtown area and portions of residential neighborhoods.
That project is still ongoing on portions of Cape Fear Blvd. But the portions that have been repaved with the addition of a bike and walking path look outstanding.
There are a lot of transportation projects set for 2016 that will cause traffic delays along Highway 421, but we'll get through it.
Hopefully in 2015 the community will continue to see  even more improvements in quality of life throughout our area. This week's Year In Review isn't all-inclusive, but it's good to look back and reflect upon where one has been in order to move forward in a positive direction. Next week we'll get back to the current news.
Have a Happy New Year and be safe while traveling.
And don't forget the New Year's Eve Fireworks Celebration is in Carolina Beach this year.
