The Carolina Beach Town Council unanimously voted to approve a request for a Conditional Use Permit for G.H.K Developments, Inc. at their January 9th, meeting to redevelop the Federal Point Shopping Center located at 1018 N. Lake Park Blvd. The proposal calls for demolition of the existing shopping center and construction of a new 51,469 square foot grocery store with an attached 8,400 square foot multi-tenant building with a patio area. The plans show areas for two additional future multi-tenant buildings.
Now the adjacent property owner, Jubilee Carolina, LLC, is challenging the Council's decision to issue that permit because they claim it negatively impacts their previously issued permit to build a Harris Teeter store and gas station on the property right next to the Federal Point Shopping Center. Their plan included interconnectivity to Federal Point. Now the developer for that shopping center says they will not allow that interconnectivity which means the Harris Teeter project would have to be redesigned.
While that challenge makes its way through the court system - which can take time - the businesses are still open in the Federal Point Shopping Center including Carolina Beach Scuba, Primrose Cottage, Tip Top Frame, Maxways and others.
These businesses plan to remain open and when they are eventually informed of a date certain that they will  have to relocate, they plan to open at new locations. In the meantime, they need the public to be aware that their doors are still open, so when you get a change, stop by these wonderful businesses and enjoy all they to offer.
A hearing in the case regarding the Harris Teeter challenge of the Federal Point permit is set for a hearing sometime in April of this year.
Stay tuned...
