Water and Sewer rate increases are astronomical!

Dear Editor,
It is absolutely amazing to see the town council dump these sorts of astronomical costs to the citizens of this island! With all of the neglect to properly maintain the “aging” water and sewer systems in years and administrations past, now WE have to pick up the tab, and in short order! I currently live in the old “Wilmington Beach” area of the island and just got through paying, in cash, a $5000.00 assessment for 50 feet of pavement, forced storm sewer installation and water system upgrades. Now, I have to pay again for what has already been done in my area?
I think it serious time for the voters to consider who they are voting for in the upcoming elections! This secretive, 58 million dollar endeavor and the method to collect it has been in the works for some time now and was NEVER divulged to any of us in any of their campaigns! The method (or lack thereof) of handling this expenditure would have greatly influenced who I would have voted to put in office. I can guarantee you it will have a serious effect in the next election!
I don’t think it ever proper to fleece the people over obviously neglected infrastructure management. Had these issues been addressed in a timely manner, it wouldn’t have to be done all at once. It probably doesn’t all need to be done at one time now.
This will most likely turn out to be another of the town council and town managers boon-doggling, classic screw-ups that will shadow the “Road-Diet” fiasco, the DOUBLING of the price of the Firehouse upgrade because no project manager was assigned and the never-ending, open checkbook Cape Fear Blvd makeover!  There are members still in place that contributed to those classic and expensive failures! There are some in place that contributed to the neglect of the water and sewer system going back many years.
I firmly believe that the new boardwalk, as nice as it is right now, will fall victim to the very same sort of management and the very same sort of resolution!
