Make Sure We Get Quality Street Paving

By / Letters to the Editor / Tuesday, 14 October 2014 04:00

Mayor, Council, Others,
Soon there will be new street paving on Cape Fear Blvd and Clarendon Ave.
We remember the poor paving jobs on Carolina Beach Ave North, Canal Drive and 7th Street between Harper and Town Hall that has been attributed to the road bed under these streets was substandard before paving began.Someone must see that this does not happen again? A past Council approved a contract to hire contractors to do a paving job and signed checks for 3 streets to be paved and we were left with 3 messes.
These 3 streets now more resemble Roller Coasters with dips and dives. Someone paid our money for 3 well paved streets in the past that we did not get.
A Continuing Broken Promise.
Citizens in C.B. are still expecting this Mayor and Council to elimination all Health and Dental Insurance for themselves as promised and not another compromise. Feeding at the public's trough by Councils must stop. Some on Council do not know the difference between eliminate and compromise and how to keep promises so I have spelled it out. ELIMINATE MEANS:The act of removing or getting rid of something.
COMPROMISE MEANS: Settle a dispute by mutual concessions. The vote to compromise was a 3-2 vote with Councilman Shuttleworth and Council lady Friede voting no. These two wanted to keep 100% instead of 80% Town funded Insurance for elected officials. These 2 should not be reelected but should be replaced. The remaining 3 members of your Council also need to be replaced voted to continue this insurance with a compromise of 80% Town paid and 20% elected officials pay that continued the feeding at the public's trough even though this 3 ran a campaign to eliminate this insurance if elected.
Should we elect or reelect politicians that do not keep promises. Most definitely not.Council was elected to serve our Town/us not self serve themselves with absurd benefits. Benefits must be reserved for employees not for elected officials to feed at the public's trough.
Absurd: Wildly unreasonable, illogical, or inappropriate. Utterly or obviously senseless, contrary to any reason or common sense. Absurd also describes: 17.5 FEET SIDEWALKS IN PARTS OF OUR CBD,  AN UNNEEDED ONE WAY STREET IN OUR CBD. FREEZING FISH GUTS AND FISH HEADS AT OUR MARINA THEN DISPOSAL. MASSIVE STORAGE AREAS OUTSIDE TOWN HALL, C.B. REPLACING NOISE MAKING VEHICLES AND TRASH COMPACTORS WITH A NOISE MAKING CHIPPER TO ELIMINATE A NOISE PROBLEM. WHAT MORE NONSENSE CAN THEIR NEIGHBORS EXPECT NEXT?
