Dear Pleasure Island and surrounding areas,
If you were lucky enough (and smart enough) to brave the elements on Saturday, April 13th-14th, you were treated to an incredible line-up of Blues and Jazz talent at the 25th Pleasure island Seafood Blues & Jazz Festival. From the scorching guitar licks of Ana Popovic to the soulful voice of Danielle Nicole and everything in between, the crowds were entertained with fourteen bands on two stages over two glorious days. If we want to continue this tradition of bringing International, award-winning Blues and Jazz to our tiny Island, we need more attendees and business sponsors. Please get the word out for next April’s 26th Annual Festival, so this bit of magic can continue.
As with any great event, this is not accomplished in a vacuum. There are many, many sponsors and individuals to thank. I am sure to forget many, but please understand, I am acknowledging the heavy-hitters. Starting with sponsors, we could not bring this quality of talent to Pleasure Island without our Platinum sponsor, Bryant Real Estate – please be sure and stop in and tour their new building (beside Michael’s Seafood). The Town of Carolina Beach is an invaluable sponsor (monetarily and behind-the-scenes manpower)-Thank you Carolina Beach Town Council. The Golden Sands Hotel & Resort is instrumental in taking care of our musicians that travel far and wide to get to our end-of-the-road paradise. We would like to recognize Duke Energy, Perry’s Emporium, BudLite and Bank of America for their generous sponsorship. In addition, we would like to acknowledge Rex & Sons RV’s, Island Gazette, Encore, Sunrise Broadcasting, Cumulus Broadcasting, Lamar Advertising. We also would like to thank Jersey Mike’s, McDonald’s and Chick-Fil-A for feeding our musicians and volunteers. A huge thank you to Katy Powell at Ft. Fisher Air Force Recreation Area. And lastly, a huge shout-out to the best sound and light company in the United States – Mike Thrift and Sound Wave Audio. Our Volunteers are the best – I am not even sure where to begin with the amount of energy given to our community.
• Janis Boroznoff, Rachael Shelton, Sue Winchell and Anne Brodsky at the Front Gate
• Skip Sprague and George Winchell for handling the Vendors (Crafts and Food)
• Butch Von Cannon, Susan Ywaskevic, Dawn Betz and Susie Lightcap at the Volunteer Desk
• Paul Boroznoff for all his great photography as well as many before and after tasks (banners, signs, etc) most never see.
• Lynn Halterman and Eric McHorney for taking care of the sponsors and Ice during the event.
• The Kure Beach Fire Department for handling First Aid throughout the event
• Deb LeCompte, Gene Carmen, Shelly & Victoria Palmer and Garner Von Cannon for taking care of the Bands
• Debbie Burge and Richard Stamey for always running our Coke trailer and selling tshirts
• Kelly Love Hawes for her beautiful artwork for our poster (still available) and Nancy Salerno for everything involved with the Tshirts and posters.
• The Pleasure Island Parrotheads for running the KidZone
• All of our Golf Cart operators assisting handicap and other folks in need
• The Trashy People – Tony, Roy, Stewart and Mike
• And everyone else involved, but not mentioned – we had over 200 Volunteer shifts to pull this Festival off.
If you see any of the volunteers, Chamber Board Members or sponsors, please say thank you. Most of these folks give of their time freely throughout the year to make our life on Pleasure Island just a little bit better.
After 14 years of working Chamber events on our Island, I wanted to take the opportunity to say Thank you to the hundreds of sponsors and volunteers that make these Festivals as professional as possible. Finally, Thank you to the music lovers that attend our events – we appreciate you and want more of you – tell your friends to visit, enjoy and do business with Chamber Members.
And now on to the 34th Annual Carolina Beach Music Festival on June 1st (and fireworks, Movies and Free Summer Concerts)....See you down front.
Thank You
Greg Reynolds, President, Pleasure Island Chamber of Commerce
