Winston-Salem Fly Fishing Show Kick-Starts 2015 Anglins Season with $36,175 in Door Prizes

WINSTON-SALEM, NC – Traditional calendars and the weatherman might not agree, but for mid-Atlantic anglers, Feb. 6 is the first day of spring.
The third annual Winston-Salem Fly Fishing Show begins the 2015 angling season at the Benton Convention Center, Feb. 6-7.  Parking is free. The facility, 301 West Fifth St., will play host to a two day three ring circus of all-things-fly-fishing with casting demonstrations, fly-tying, films, and the newest tackle and gear all pointed at local fly-fishers. Door prizes valued at $36,175 to be won at the 2015 Fly Fishing Shows include:
• Three nights and two full days of fishing each at Belize River Lodge, Belcampo Lodge, El Pescador Lodge and Turneffe Flats, Belize.  Value $15,000.
• Restigouche River Lodge – New Brunswick, Canada. Value $5,000.
• Reel Action Lodge – Kanektok River, Alaska. Value $4,750.
• Minor Bay Lodge – Wollaston Lake, Saskatchewan, Canada.  Value $3,895.
• Eva’s Bonefish Lodge – Andros Island, Bahamas.  Value $1,700.
• Georgetown Coastal Adventures – Georgetown, SC.  Value $1,200.
• Wyoming Fly Fishing – Gray Reef section of the North Platte River in Central Wyoming.  Value $1,130.

Among the scheduled Destination Theater presentations are Fly Fishing the Henry’s Fork, Winter Dry Fly Fishing, Fly Fishing Western North Carolina, Fly Fishing the San Juan in Southwestern Colorado, South Carolina: A Saltwater Fly Fishing Secret, Southern Trout, Fly Fishing Bonefish and Permit on Ambergris Caye, Alaska Peninsula Fly Fishing Camps, Musky on the Fly and Alaska’s Salmon and the Flies that Take Them. The 2015 International Fly Fishing Film Festival will debut Feb. 6 at 6:30 p.m.  Films in the 90-plus minute program include "Secrets," Fly Fusion Films; "Tarpon," Marc Crapo Productions; "Recapture," Mike Perrelli; “The Trout of Cuttyville," SOS Fly Fishing; "Hank," IF4 Original Film and "In Search of Grande," Anglers Eye Media.

Fly Fishing Show admission is $15 for one day, $25 for two days.  Film Festival admission is $15 or $10 with paid admission to the show.  Film Festival tickets are also $10 when purchased in advance.

WINSTON-SALEM, NC – Hands-on classes with experts in the skills of casting and fly-tying are open for registration in advance of the Fly Fishing Show, Feb. 6-7.  Classes are:
Fri., 8:30-11 a.m.
• Tying Sulphers with Entomologist Matthew Green.  A course in tying insect imitations of the sulpher mayfly   Intermediate.
• Dry Fly Academy with Nate Brumley.  Fifty years of knowledge of fishing exclusively with dry flies.  All levels.
• Casting with Lori-Ann Murphy from the basics to advanced fly casting.  All levels

• Fly Casting with Bob Clouser.  Topics include getting greater distance with a double-haul and casting weighted flies.  Intermediate.
•    Fly Tying with Henry Cowen.  A comprehensive class covering a variety of natural and synthetic materials.  Intermediate.
• Learn to Land Big Fish with Capt. Jake Jordan.  Learn how to rig, present the fly, fight and land big fish.  All levels.
• Tying the Game Changer with Blane Chocklett.  Step-by-step techniques to make streamer flies swim like a real fish.  Intermediate.
Sat. 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m.
• Women Only Casting with Lori-Ann Murphy.  Limited to eight women.
