What a great week we had to be on the water this week! A small cold front pushed through with some northerly winds which made for some pleasant weather to be on the water. The fish must have liked it as well because they were sure willing to bite when given the opportunity. The offshore bite is right on track where it should be. With the weeks passing by these offshore predators will continue moving closer to the beach for the fall bite to be really good. There are still plenty of spanish mackerel right outside the inlet’s and can be fooled with both artificial and live baits. The inshore species are still in the same place’s they have been for weeks now. Anywhere around grass or some structure and you will find success. There were some larger flounder brought to the dock this week with some pushing the 8lb. class. This is only going to continue to get better as the fall approaches and we might start to see some of the true “doormat’s” that our waters are capable of producing. There was a flounder tournament held out of southport this past weekend that a lot of local anglers participated in. Myself, Austin Eubank, and Ryan Wiggins teamed up and were able to scale a nice 6.15lb. flattie and were able to bring back 2nd place honors to Carolina Beach. All you have to do is get out there and wet a line, good results will follow! Good luck this coming week and remember, Safety First.
