Another week has come and gone. The water has slowly but surely gotten a little better over the past week. The funny thing is that the inshore water still looks terrible and the water forty miles offshore looks just as bad. The water right on the beach however, is incredible. A ton of bait showed up on the beach and right on their tails are plenty of predators looking for a feeding opportunity. I heard of many great catches this week including a 13 pound sheephead caught on a local dock as well as a 98 pound wahoo caught at the carolina beach sea buoy. There was a pile of king mackerel that showed up right on our beach this week. All you have to do is ask the pier fisherman about them and they can tell you many a story. Both Carolina Beach fishing pier and Kure Beach fishing pier caught many kingfish over the past week. This is the time of year that your mind can be blown while out on the water. I do want to take the time to congratulate the anglers that finished in the top three in the ever competitive Got-em On flounder points trail that ended just a week ago. It was a crazy end to the season. Jake Scorzio won the final points tournament with a quality 6.5 pound flatfish. As far the the season points total go’s, Luke Donal finished in first followed closely by Chris Hanson in second and Captain John Theodorakis in third. This was a very tough flounder fishing season and I want to applaud everyone that participated as well as the folks that made it happen, the Got-em-On board/volunteers. This week coming up a lot of local anglers will be in Morehead City competing in the SKA national championship. I will be reporting on the details of that tournament next week. Good luck to everyone, and remember to be safe out there!
