What a week!! The weather seems to be improving every week now as we get closer to spring. With the warmer days and clearer skies this past week, I noticed a lot more angler activity in the area.
Not just from a fishing standpoint but also people simply getting prepared for the season after what always seems to be “the longest winter” in a while.
Island Tackle and Hardware looked to have to a steady flow of traffic from boaters as well as anglers working on their equipment.
The boat ramp also saw an increase in traffic as people were taking advantage of the warmer temperatures to either go fishing or work some kinks out in gear/equipment.
No matter what the cause was for the increase in activity, it put a smile on my face. All this means is that prime time fishing must be soon to follow.
For the anglers that never let winter deter them, success is still there to be had. I spoke with several people who went into our river this past week in search of our local stripers.
Most all of them had good reports that these fish were hungry. As always, you can find the redfish lurking close by in shallow bays.
This fishery is a great winter fishery and can provide some steady action when you corner them somewhere.
There was not much talk from the offshore fleet as the wind seemed to blow nearly every day. Hopefully there will be more to report on in upcoming weeks. If you decide to get out there this week remember to be safe.
