• 9/18 – Ashley 6 West Brunswick 0 - The Eagles were on fire scoring early and often. Drew Walters led the team with a hat trick (3 goals): first one since Stanley Broaden (2009 graduate). Drew's first goal came at the 1:35 minute mark and the Eagles never looked back scoring three first half goals and added three more in the second. Josh Barnello had two goals; one of which was assisted by Ryan Powers. Defender Zack Smith got his first high school goal to round off the scoring. The defense was stellar in their shut out with Ryan Keller and TJ White sharing keeping responsibilities. Noah Wilcox, Zack Smith Seba Gonzales, Evan Laverick provided the first brick wall in the defense which was shared with Logan Wain, Alex Bautista, and Nick Hancock. It was a great team effort in the 6-0 win over West Brunswick.. The varsity is now 3-4-2 and 2-1 in the conference. JV - The JV team won by a score 4-0 bringing their record to 5-2 and 2-1 in the conference.
• 9/19 – Ashley 4 East Duplin 2 - Josn Barnello came out of the starting blocks with a bang scoring his first goal thirty seconds into the match and having his second goal less than three minutes into the match. We allowed East Duplin a goal and then Drew Walters answered with a goal off a Ryan Powers assist. The final Ashley goal cam in the 25th minute when Duenis Aviola assisted Juan Bernardez. East Duplin was awarded a penalty kick which they finished making the score Ashley 4 East Duplin 2. The second half was very chippy and neither team had any good looks at goal so the first half score was the final: Ashley 4 East Duplin 2 so our tie earlier in the season was avenged. The varsity is now 4-4-2 and 2-1 in conference.
The JV also won Friday night bringing their record to 5-2 and 2-1 in conference. Both teams are in action at home today (JV 5:00 Varsity 6:30).
• 9/22 - Ashley 2 New Bern 3 - The Eagles started off dominating play and it looked as if they would have their way but things fell apart between the 14th and 20th minutes which resulted in three New Bern goals. The Eagles were able to get one back when Zack Smith scored on a header from a Juan Bernardez corner kick. The Bears fouled Juan later on in the half but unfortunately the penalty kick the cross bar. Nine minutes into the second half Dominic Toone put a wonderful shot into the lower left corner of the goal to pull the Eagles within one. Unfortunately lightning came and stopped the game. Coach Roberts made the call since New Bern had a 2 hour ride home and we have an away conference match on Tuesday to call it a complete game. Final New Bern 3 Ashley 2. Overall Record 4-5-2 Conference 2-1
