Varsity Soccer’s Loss to Laney hurts 1st Place Run

By / High School Sports / Wednesday, 15 October 2014 04:00

10/3 – Ashley 0 Laney 1 - The Eagles were still in the hunt for a conference title until Friday night. Ashley and Laney were tied for second place with two losses in the Mid-Eastern Conference. New Hanover is in first with only one loss but a final match up with the Eagles could change that. Unfortunately that match up will not determine whether we become champs but whether Laney or New Hanover will be. Our best place will be third unless one of these three teams implodes! We created three very good scoring opportunities in the first fifteen minutes of the game but we either played it over, wide, or directly into the keeper. Just over three minutes into the second half Laney was able to find the net on a break away run from midfield. That was all the scoring that was needed. Final score Laney 1 Ashley 0. The Eagles are now 7-7-2 overall with a conference record of 5-3.
ON A POSITIVE NOTE: The JV Team avenged an earlier loss to the Buccaneers with a 3-0 win. This keeps the Eagles in first place in the Mid-Eastern Conference with a 12-2 overall and a 7-1 conference record. Next game at West Brunswick on Tuesday 10/14.
The JV players will need to be released at 3:00. The varsity players will not need be excused as they will be traveling later.
