WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW sophomore forward Devontae Cacok, who has emerged as a dominant force inside for the 10-1 Seahawks, has been recognized as the Colonial Athletic Association's Player-of-the-Week for the second time.
The Riverdale, Ga., product averaged 16.5 points and 9.5 rebounds in a pair of convincing victories last week over Campbell and Radford. The 6-7, 240-pound Cacok has converted his last 15 field goal attempts and is sitting on the school record for consecutive field goals heading into Tuesday's 6:30 p.m. tilt vs. regional rival East Carolina.
Cacok went 8-for-8 en route to 18 points in the 96-75 verdict at Campbell last Wednesday and then connected on all seven of his shots toward 15 points in Saturday's 100-64 demolition of Radford. The second-year man out of Alpharetta High School ranks second in the NCAA Division I ranks in field goal percentage with an 80.7 percent aim. He trails only UCF 7-8 center Tacko Fall in the rankings. Cacok added 10 rebounds vs. the Camels for his fourth double-double of the season and had eight dunks on the week. He ranks third on the team in scoring (14.0 ppg) and first in rebounding (9.9 rpg) after 11 games.
Cacok was also recognized by the CAA on Nov. 21 and shared this week's honor with Northeastern graduate forward Alex Murphy, who scored a team-high 18 points and grabbed six rebounds in NU's 81-73 victory at Michigan State on Sunday.
