Cape Fear Flyers compete in Durham Striders Developmental Meet

The Cape Fear Flyers Junior Olympic Track & Field Team competed in the Durham Striders Developmental Meet this past Saturday at Durham Memorial Stadium. The Flyers were able to bring home lots of Ribbons to go along with there many personal best performances. The 1st event up on the track was the 1500 Meter Run. The Cape Fear Flyers had several athletes in this event. Hannah Garce was 2nd Place in the 8 & Under with a time of 6:39, Maris Toppin was 5th in the 9-10 Girls with a time of 6:17, Riley Dunn was 8th 6:50, Holly Mckee was 9th 6:59, Carter Grace was 6th in the 9-10 Boys 6:03, Paxton Chitty was 8th 11-12 Girls 5:55, Owen Thordike 7th 13-14 Boys 5:18, Harry Squires was 14th 13-14 Boys 6:41, Amanda McIntyre was 7th in the 15-16 Girls 7:26, Hunter Browe took 2nd in the 15-16 Boys 4:41, Chris Avery 4th 17-18 Boys 4:44, James Avery 6th 4:46, and Thomas Avery was 7th 4:46. Hurdles were next and the Flyers Daniel Wike in his 1st ever 100 Hurdles took 2nd in the 13-14 Boys with a 19.51 and Hunter Browe took 2nd in the 17-18 Boys with a 21.63. Next up was the 100 Meter Dash. Morgan Mullins ran a 20.16, Evan Acome ran a 16.43, Farrah Newton in the 13-14 Girls ran a 15.55, Daniel Wike was 22nd of 46 with a 13.43, Luke Eilis was 26th 13.47, and Spencer Barker ran a 16.74. Next Event up was the 400 Meter and the 1st Flyer to race was Evan Acome who ran a personal best time of 1:17 in the 11- 12 Boys. Also in the 400: Farrah Newton ran a 1:29 in the 13-14 girls, Luke Elis ran a amazingly fast time in the 13-14 Boys age with a 1:02 to take 12th Place, In the 17-18 Boys James Avery ran a :57 and Thomas Avery a 1:02. The Last Event up was the 9-10 Girls 800 Meter Run and the 1st Flyer on the Track was Maris Toppin. She easily won the 1st Heat and took 5th Place overall with a 3:07.56. Also in the 800 Meter Run: Paxton Chitty 10th in the 11-12 Girls 2:59.75, In the 13-14 Boys Owen Thorndike 8th 2:35 and Luke Elis 2:37 for 10th, Hunter Browe took 7th Overall in the 15-16 Boys 2:21, and in the 17-18 Boys James Avery was 7th 2:14, Chris Avery 8th 2:19 and Thomas 10th 2:19.
In the Field Events: Long Jump: 17-18 Boys James Avery took 2nd Place with a 18-10.75, Hunter Browe 14th in the 15-16 Boys with a 15-10.50 jump, 13-14 Boys Daniel Wike 16th with a jump of 13-10.25 and Seth Barker 19th 11ft, 11-12 Girls Emeline Barker 10-0.5, 11-12 Boys Evan Acome had a jump of 9-02-.25, 8& Under Girls Hannah Grace was 7th at 7-09.75 and Morgan Mullins was 19th with a jump of 6-03.75. In High Jump Holly McKee was the 1st Flyer to jump and she took 5th with a jump of 2-07.5 in the 9-10 Girls. In the 11-12 Boys Evan Acome took 8th with a jump of 3-05.25. Shot Put: 9-10 Boys Carter Grace 3rd with a throw of 18-02.5, 15-16 Girls Amanda McIntyre went 17-01.50, 17-18 Girls Madison Bonser 6th 19-09, and 17-18 Boys Russell Corbett 1st 51-07.00. In the Discus Russell also got 1st Place with a throw of 143-08, 17-18 Girls Madison Bonser 8th 63-07. Mini-Javelin: 9-10 Girls Holly McKee 8th 33ft and Maris Toppin 13th 23-09. The Meet awarded athletes ribbons for the top 6 Places. Next up for the Flyers they will be heading back to Durham Memorial Stadium to compete in the 2015 State Games, followed by the Coacho Invitational in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina next weekend.
