NC Individual Income Tax Season Began Jan. 29th

RALEIGH, N.C. : Jan. 29th, 2018 - The North Carolina Department of Revenue (NCDOR) officially opened the 2018 tax filing season and began accepting and processing individual income tax returns on Monday, Jan. 29. The Internal Revenue Service opened the federal tax filing season on the same day.
NCDOR is making available free online filing (eFile) for qualifying taxpayers with incomes as high as $66,000 for individuals and $95,000 for joint filers. The service, NCfreefile, is only available through the NCDOR.gov website where taxpayers should review eligibility requirements: https://www.ncdor.gov/ncfreefile
Due to the NCDOR’s enhanced identity theft protection measures, some refunds may take longer than normal, which is 8 weeks for electronically-filed returns and 12 weeks for paper returns. Filing returns early also reduces the risk of tax refund fraud.
Tax returns are due this year on Tuesday, April 17. The regular deadline was extended due to the federal government being closed on Monday, April 16, to observe Emancipation Day.
