CAROLINA BEACH - The Carolina Beach Planning and Zoning Commission will consider an application to open a new specialty beer and wine retail store at 1206 North Lake Park Blvd, Unit C, during their upcoming Thursday January 8th, meeting at 6:30PM at Town Hall.
According to Town Senior Planner Jeremy Hardison, "The applicants, Island Beverage, LLC and Bryan Parker, are requesting a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) to serve beer and wine on site at 1206 North Lake Park Blvd, Unit C. The applicants plan on serving tastings of beer and wine as part of their specialty beer and wine retail store. A small selection of packaged snack foods will also be sold. The store is 1,200 square feet total. The unit is part of the Crossbridge Village Shopping Center located in the Highway Business (HB) District. The multiuse strip commercial center was approved as a CUP in 2002."
According to Bryan G. Parker, "We will be a retail wine and beer shop, specializing in craft beer and wines from around the world. Serving on premise is an important part of developing the customer's palate and allowing them to find wines and beers they like, without having to buy an entire bottle. We don't intend to stay open until 2AM like the typical "bar". We will not be serving liquor and we will  only carry a small amount of package foods, i.e. nuts, cheeses, crackers, that the North Carolina ABC might require of us to serve on premise."
Parker explained in a letter to the Planning Department, "Island Beverage is looking forward to joining the ever growing business community of Carolina Beach, and adding to its diversity. We will bring some unique offerings to the Town that are not yet widely available in the area. This would include ciders, meads, unique craft beers and wines from around the world. These types of "hybrid" bottle shops have been great successes in Wilmington and other area beaches. We will carry all required permits from the State of North Carolina and the ABC Commission and all insurances pertaining to this type of business."
