Lane Closures Next Week on the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge in New Hanover County

NEW HANOVER CTY -  Starting at 9 p.m., Tuesday, May 12, and ending at 5 a.m., Thursday, May 14, the N.C. Department of Transportation will intermittently close the eastbound and westbound lanes of the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge nightly on U.S. 421 over the Cape Fear River in Wilmington. This closure will take place in order for crews to repair the metal deck on the bascule span of the bridge.
Portions of the grid deck occasionally break from wear and fatigue, while some of the welds can break from expansion and contraction caused by changes in weather. NCDOT crews will repair the
damaged areas and inspect the remainder of the deck for metal fatigue and minor cracks and make repairs as needed.
Although there will not be any detours, drivers are still urged to seek alternate routes. Motorists are also advised to use caution while traveling in the area and to expect delays. NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
For real-time travel information at any time, call 511, visit the Traveler Services section of the NCDOT website or follow NCDOT on Twitter. You can also access NCDOT Mobile, a version of the NCDOT website especially for mobile devices. Visit http://m.ncdot.gov  from your mobile browser.
