KURE BEACH - Police have one female in custody following a nine and a half hour standoff at an apartment on N. 4th Avenue in Kure Beach. Police responded to a call for service Sunday night July 1st, at 7:55pm at 225 Unit A, N. 4th Avenue.

According to Carolina Beach Police Detective Scott Hettinger, officers made contact with an individual at that address. At that point the female ran to the back of the house with a fire arm.

Hettinger said Sunday night that multiple law enforcement agencies responded and created a perimeter.

According to Kure Beach Police Chief Mike Bowden, after an all night standoff, "At 5:25am on July 2nd, a subject from 225 A North Fourth Avenue was taken into Law Enforcement custody. The subject exited the residence and was apprehended by the New Hanover County Emergency Response Team after approximately nine and a half hours."

Chief Bowden explained, "The individual is currently being evaluated by emergency personnel. Approximately 10 surrounding residents were displaced and given shelter. Residents and guests living in the area may return to their homes. No injuries have been reported. No further information on charges as the  investigation is ongoing."
