Police Investigating Death Of Man Found In Waterway Featured

CAROLINA BEACH - The Carolina Beach Police Department is investigating the death of a man found in the waters of the yacht basin near Lees Lane on Sunday March 3rd.

According to Detective Scott Hettinger, "The Police Department, Carolina Beach Fire Department, and New Hanover Regional Medical Center EMS responded to the area of the Carolina Beach Marina. Responders located an unresponsive person in the water off Lees Ln."

Hettinger said the man was identified by first responders as  Michael Warren Thomas, a 56-year-old male from Columbia, Maryland."

Hettinger explained, "A witness informed investigators Mr. Thomas traveled to Carolina Beach by sailboat. The witness additionally advised Mr. Thomas did not return to his boat the night before as expected. The Medical Examiner’s Office will make the official determination for the cause of death. No foul play is suspected at this time.

The investigation is still on-going and no additional information is available.  Family members of the deceased have been notified."
