CAROLINA BEACH -  Carolina Beach Town Manager Lucky Narain will present a proposed budget for fiscal year 2019-2020 at the Town Council's May 14th meeting. A public hearing will be held to get input on the proposal.

During recent meetings the Town Council heard presentations from various departments. The Council met April 23rd and  April 30th to review budget proposals from individual departments for the 2019-2020 fiscal year budget which begins July 1st.

Near the end of the April 23rd meeting the Council discussed the potential for a property tax increase. While no definite number was decided upon, Mayor Joe Benson said he would begin exploring a 3 cent increase early in the budget planning process in order to get feedback.

During the April 30th, meeting, Town Manager Lucky Narain presented a zero-based budget that included a $.02 cent property tax increase for every $100 of property valuation.

He noted that increase would not add much to the Town's Fund Balance Reserves (Savings) and that another property tax increase would likely be required the following fiscal year.

The May 14th meeting will be held at Town Hall, 1121 North Lake Park Blvd in the Council meeting room at 6:30PM.

The Council will meet again on May 28th for final revisions and then will consider adopting the final version of the 2019-2020 budget at their June 11th meeting.
