“If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses.”  ~Henry Ford

Saturday, May 21st the street in front of our store will be buzzing with activity and lots and lots of creativity.  It is the annual Carolina Beach Street Arts Festival.  Creativity has never been problem for me.  In fact, most of my employers called me ‘unique’ which is a nice way of saying it is easier for me to think outside of the box than inside.  Fortunately, Henry Ford was good at that, too.
And so it is with the dozens of artists, vendors, and entertainers committed to this Saturday’s event.  It is creativity that seduces people to an artist’s booth.
If that creativity touches an emotional cord, it is almost impossible to resist the urge to take a piece home and give it a place to live, near one’s side.
This year the community project has been headed up by the Island Arts and Culture Alliance board and local artist Jan Feury.
She has taken one of Stephanie Kiker’s (artist from the outer banks) images of a mermaid, replicated it on a very large board (with her permission, of course) and begun the process of embellishing her.  Any person at the festival can add his or her touch as we watch her come to life throughout the day.  It will be auctioned off as previous community projects like the silk batik with turtles or the mosaic boards which now hang delightfully on Jean and Mark Stacy’s fresh lanai.  I helped them place them and Mark hung them with precision.
You probably are more creative than you think.  If you have both a right and left hemisphere of your brain, and you are willing to tap into the right side, you can discover an endless possibility of new thoughts, ideas, images, etc.  Being around others who can do that easily can ramp up your ability.
Many customers who walk through our store, filled with the work of artists made energetically with positive emotion, thank us for the opportunity to become inspired.
Come join us during this interactive festival celebrating the arts from visual, performing, and culinary arts with over 70 Artists from around the region! Shop fine arts and craft, participate in the community art project, and join in on a hoop or drum circle! Enjoy performances all day including The Broccoli Brothers Circus at noon. Learn to line dance or shag too.
I will see you Saturday, May 21st from 10am to 5pm on Cape Fear Blvd. I will be located inside at Artful Living Group.  Come see me and Come Be Part of the Arts, and don’t forget to activate your superpowers infront of our store.  #superpowersactivated.  xo mo
