“Always be yourself, unless you can be a mermaid. Then by all means, be a mermaid.”

It seems strange that a little girl born in the state of Wisconsin would dream to one day become a mermaid. Could it have been that her father’s career with the Foreign Service which placed her formative years in Norway and Sweden before settling down in the Washington, DC area, played a huge part in developing her love for fairy tales, impish sprites and other quirky elementals?
Could it have been that her mother’s career as an interior designer proved that the creative genes run heavy in this family?
When you are a true artist, it is hard to contain your gift.  After high school graduation, Felice Kite entered Virginia Tech where she studied interior design.  As any good fairy tale goes, along came a young commercial architect and their collaboration eventually led to marriage and the birth of two beautiful daughters.
The girls are now 16 and 17 and Kite works mainly on residential jobs, but at times she and her husband still work together on large commercial projects.
Kite found herself teaching art camps out of her home in the summers and classes in the winter.  Her style became recognizable. Bright colors and word art cheer all who read it.  She still dreamed of one day living at the beach.
Eventually the day came when she was able to purchase a second home on Pleasure Island.
Her sister and mother joined suit and lots of wonderful family memories have been created on this island.  Her future goal now includes writing a children’s book. She knows how to make things happen.
Kite also does commissioned pet portraits which you can see on her professional Facebook page Felice Kite Artist.  Even better you can meet her in person at Artful Living Group Thursday, July 7 6:30-8:30.  She is the featured artist for month of July and her show named “Island Pleasures” will hang in the gallery throughout the month. Come see her renditions of the local hangouts like The Tiki Bar, Freddie’s, Britt’s and The Fat Pelican.
This is a gal who gives everything and has no regrets.  “Life is too short to be anything but happy.”  Come enjoy her show and take home some ‘happy.’  xo mo
