“Wabi Sabi.  Nothing is permanent.  Nothing is perfect.  Nothing is finished.”

Chris and I worked nonstop this past week closing the shop.  On Sunday Greg moved her studio to her new location at 1003 Bennett Lane Suite N.  There will be 2 other artists studios sharing the space. She will display retail from selected artists.  Her hours will be by appointment or when she is in her studio working. Customers seek out her work.  Fishbone Designs has become known for creating jewelry full of memories and funkiness. Customers bring jewelry that is unworn, sitting in a box in the drawer and Chris creates a necklace, a ring, a bracelet that they will wear and wear they do as compliments abound.
In August featured Fishbone Designs online and in their newsletter.  Higgins told them, “I enjoy working with sterling silver because it has an energy that changes with the design through textures and colors.  The stones I use are precious and semi-precious gems and polished natural from wonderful lapidaries around the world.
Fishbone Designs reflects my mixed Japanese and Cherokee heritage with a balance of colors and shapes to create simple yet striking jewelry.  I embrace the aesthetic values of “Wabi-sabi,” beauty in imperfection.  “Wabi” connotes rustic simplicity, freshness or quietness, and can be applied to both natural and human-made objects, or understand elegance.  It can also refer to quirks and anomalies arising from the process of construction which add uniqueness and elegance to the object.  “Sabi” is beauty or serenity that comes with age, when the life of the object and its impermanence are evidenced in its patina and wear, or in any visible repairs.
Because I fabricate each piece rather than cast them, my energy combines with the metal making each piece unique.  This is why I enjoy doing custom work because I think about that person as I work on their one-of-a-kind piece. “
