“My goal is to build a life I don’t need a vacation from.” ~Rob Hill Sr.

As I was working on a feng shui presentation for a local community club (yes, I love pulling out the power point projector), I realized how passionate I am about helping others ‘create deliberate spaces in their homes and workspaces.’
There are four simple steps to go from where you are today to where you want to be tomorrow and it begins with setting your intentions.  Begin by becoming aware of what you want to change in your life.  Feng shui is about YOU and how you feel.  It is a method to make changes in your life….by using the space around you.
It needs to be very clear that whatever change or benefit we are creating is not coming from the tool itself, but from our skill at applying the tool with intent. This is why feng shui is different from style and decorating, even though the results of feng shui will include good design.  Begin by setting 3 goals and intentions.  Where are you stuck?  What is not working in your life? What do you want to enhance in their life?  Only when we can say what we want and need, can we monitor if we are actualizing our goals.  Why do we need this information?  This is the essence of feng shui or “how the space makes you feel.”  This is the difference between designing a space to “make pretty” and creating a space specifically for the person who lives in the space.  Feng shui is about the PERSON in the place.  The PLACE is the tool we use to bring the person into a harmonious being. The tools of feng shui are not important in themselves, but only inasmuch as they relate to the awareness of the individual.   This is creating deliberate space with careful and thorough consideration characterized by awareness of the consequences.
Step two finds us interpreting the language of the space by assessing how the space makes us feel.  This step seems so mystical.  What is chi or energy and how can we tell if it is good or bad in a space?  Actually, this step is the most common sense.  Chi is assessed with our senses.  We see it.  We smell it.  We feel it.  We hear it.  We sense it.  Do you feel good?  This is good chi.  Do you feel bad? Oh, bad energy.
Step three is the action step.  Remove the negative energy.  Begin by decluttering cleaning and removing those things that make you feel bad.  Many seemingly innocent things in your space may be giving subconscious messages that haunt you.  Remove them completely.  Open up the space for new possibilities and change patterns.
Step four is to add back in the positive creating the space to reinforce the changes.  Eleven years ago my husband had a dream to live at the beach. The kids were out on their own and we were empty nesters for the first time.  We set the intention and prepared for a move thinking it would be to the ocean in Maine near his sister and family but it was Pleasure Island that woo’d us. It is possible to create a life that you don’t have to vacation from.  xo mo
